We Came, We Played, We Conquered!

UniKL stunned favourites Bandar Penawar Sports School Thunderbolt 2-1 to be crowned the MHF-Milo-NSC Junior Hockey League Overall champions at Tun Razak Hockey Stadium yesterday. “It was simply great and superb,” said the jubilant UniKL coach I. Vickneswaran when asked how he felt after the victory in its maiden season. UniKL “Young Guns” showed tremendous effort and determination together as a team in this sweet victory, taking home the coverted throphy as well as RM 20,000 for winning the title and another RM 5,000 for finishing second in Division One.

UniKL struck first from a quick counter-attack by its captain Amir Farid in the 31st minute and held onto the lead until the first half whistle. Thunderbolt came out more aggressive after the breather. Faizal Saari, a member of the national senior team player scored the equalizer for Thunderbolt in the 41st minute from the penalty spot. From that point on, Thunderbolt kept the pressure and forced UniKL’s goalkeeper Shahrul Azaddin to make some brilliant saves. In one of UniKL’s fast counter attacks, Aminuddin Abu scored and put UniKL in the lead again in the 61st minute. Numerous penalty corners were awarded to Thunderbolt which does not convert into goals. UniKL deploy their defense strategy exceptionally well till the final whistle. UniKL prevail with being the Overall Champions. Bravo UniKL!!!
